The 2022 Le Carillon de l’Angélus is the refined second wine of Château Angélus, one of Saint-Émilion’s most illustrious Premier Grand Cru Classé “A” estates. Created to showcase a more accessible yet no less meticulous expression of the château’s terroir, Le Carillon embodies the elegance and precision that define Angélus, while offering earlier approachability. First produced in 1987, it has since become one of Bordeaux’s most highly regarded second labels, treasured for its balance of charm and pedigree.

The 2022 vintage is crafted from 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested from parcels on clay-limestone soils surrounding the Angélus vineyards. Vinification was carried out with the same parcel-by-parcel precision as the Grand Vin, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, a portion new, to preserve both freshness and depth. A warm and concentrated vintage, 2022 lends intensity and structure, while the dominance of Merlot brings richness and suppleness.

In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet-purple colour and an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberry, plum, and black cherry, lifted by floral notes of violet and peony. Secondary and tertiary layers of cedar, tobacco leaf, cocoa, graphite, and warm spice add depth and complexity. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with a core of generous fruit framed by polished tannins, lively freshness, and a long, elegant finish.
