2022 Chateau Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer

The 2022 Alter Ego de Palmer is the distinguished second wine of Château Palmer, one of Margaux’s most celebrated estates. Since its creation in 1998, Alter Ego has developed a unique identity of its own, conceived not simply as a “second label” but as a distinct expression of the château’s terroir. It reflects the same biodynamic philosophy and meticulous craftsmanship as the Grand Vin, yet with a style that is more accessible in its youth, combining generosity with finesse.

The 2022 vintage is composed of 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot, harvested from deep gravel and clay-limestone soils that define the Margaux appellation. A warm and concentrated growing season produced fruit of exceptional ripeness, vinified parcel by parcel and aged in French oak barrels, a portion new, to enhance both complexity and freshness.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet-purple colour and a fragrant bouquet of ripe plum, blackberry, and black cherry, lifted by violet and iris. Secondary and tertiary aromas of cedar, cocoa, tobacco leaf, graphite, and warm spice add depth and character. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with supple tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, elegant finish that captures both the charm of Margaux and the precision of Palmer.

Critics have praised the 2022 Alter Ego de Palmer for its harmony, richness, and refinement, calling it one of the estate’s most successful vintages to date.
