The 2022 Château Léoville Barton is a commanding expression of Saint-Julien, produced by one of Bordeaux’s most esteemed Second Growth estates. With a history dating back to the early 19th century, Léoville Barton has been in the hands of the Barton family for nearly two centuries, making it one of the few Médoc châteaux still owned by its founding family. This continuity of stewardship has preserved the estate’s classic style: structured, powerful, and supremely age-worthy, while steadily evolving with modern precision.

The 2022 vintage is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.5% Merlot, and 5.5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from gravelly soils on the plateau of Saint-Julien. A warm and dry season produced small, concentrated berries of exceptional quality, harvested parcel by parcel and vinified with meticulous care. Ageing in French oak barrels, 60% new, has added depth and complexity while respecting the purity of the fruit.

In the glass, the wine presents an opaque purple colour and an aromatic bouquet of cassis, blackberry, and ripe plum, lifted by floral notes of violet and iris. Secondary and tertiary layers of cedar, graphite, tobacco, cocoa, and crushed stone bring nuance and sophistication. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with dense fruit at its core, fine-grained tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish that is both powerful and elegant.

Critics have hailed the 2022 Château Léoville Barton as one of the finest vintages in the estate’s history, praising its balance of richness and precision, along with its monumental ageing potential. A true benchmark of Saint-Julien, it reflects both the heritage of the Barton family and the grandeur of Bordeaux in one of its most brilliant vintages.
