The 2022 Château Langoa-Barton is a superb Saint-Julien release from one of Bordeaux’s most historic and family-owned estates. Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification, Langoa-Barton has been under the stewardship of the Barton family since 1821, making it one of the rare Médoc properties still in the hands of its founding lineage. Known for producing wines of classical structure, charm, and longevity, it shares not only heritage but also the winemaking expertise of its famous sibling estate, Château Léoville Barton.

The 2022 vintage is composed of 56.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from deep gravel soils that characterise Saint-Julien’s finest terroirs. A warm and dry growing season delivered berries of concentration and purity, vinified parcel by parcel with precision before ageing in French oak barrels, 60% new. This vintage showcases both richness and freshness, with perfect balance between fruit intensity and refined tannic structure.

In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby-purple colour and an expressive bouquet of cassis, blackberry, and ripe plum, lifted by floral hints of violet and peony. Secondary and tertiary aromas of cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, cocoa, and subtle spice add depth. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with supple tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish that combines power with elegance.

Critics have praised the 2022 Château Langoa-Barton for its precision and vibrancy, calling it one of the finest vintages in the estate’s modern history. It is a wine that beautifully represents both the legacy of the Barton family and the classic harmony of Saint-Julien, offering enjoyment in its youth as well as remarkable ageing potential over the next 20–30 years.
