The 2022 Château Beychevelle is a majestic expression of Saint-Julien, crafted by one of Bordeaux’s most historic and admired estates. Known as the “Versailles of the Médoc” for its grand architecture and manicured gardens, Beychevelle has roots reaching back to the 16th century and has long been celebrated for its wines of harmony and finesse. The château’s emblem, a ship lowering its sails in homage to the Grand Admiral of France, remains one of the most recognisable symbols in Bordeaux.

The 2022 vintage is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, sourced from the estate’s gravelly soils overlooking the Gironde estuary. A warm and dry growing season yielded small, concentrated berries of great intensity, vinified parcel by parcel and aged in French oak barrels, 70% new. The result is a wine of depth, precision, and refined elegance.

In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby-purple colour and a captivating bouquet of cassis, blackberry, and ripe plum, lifted by floral notes of violet and iris. Secondary and tertiary aromas of cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, cocoa, and warm spice add dimension and complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet graceful, with silky tannins, vibrant freshness, and a long, mineral-driven finish that reflects both power and finesse.

Critics have praised the 2022 Château Beychevelle as one of the estate’s finest vintages, highlighting its balance, energy, and impressive ageing potential of three decades or more. A true jewel of Saint-Julien, it unites grandeur, elegance, and collectibility in a wine that will delight both in its youth after decanting and in the cellar for years to come.
