The 2019 Opus One is a graceful and deeply expressive release from Napa Valley’s most iconic estate, born of the historic partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. Conceived as California’s answer to Bordeaux First Growths, Opus One represents the perfect harmony between Old World refinement and New World power, making it one of the most collectible wines produced in the United States.

The 2019 vintage benefited from a mild growing season with even ripening, yielding fruit of precision and balance. The blend is composed of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec. Each parcel was vinified separately and aged for 19 months in new French oak barrels, creating a wine of seamless integration, polish, and depth.

In the glass, it presents a deep ruby-purple hue and an enticing bouquet of cassis, blackberry, and plum, layered with violet, rose petal, and dried herbs. Secondary and tertiary notes of graphite, cedar, espresso, cocoa, tobacco leaf, and baking spice add further intrigue. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet graceful, with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish that lingers with elegance and power in equal measure.

Critics have praised the 2019 Opus One as a wine of purity and sophistication, calling it one of the most complete vintages of the decade. Already captivating when decanted, it will continue to evolve gracefully for 30 years or more, embodying both the vision of its founders and the timeless grandeur of Napa Valley.
