The 2015 Château Latour is a remarkable creation from one of Bordeaux’s most storied First Growth estates, whose roots reach back to the Hundred Years’ War, when a fortified tower guarded the Gironde estuary and gave the château its name and emblem. Recognised in the prestigious 1855 Classification, Château Latour has earned a reputation for uncompromising quality, with vineyard parcels meticulously vinified in stainless-steel vats of varying sizes for absolute precision. The estate’s famed Enclos vineyard, protected by stone walls, benefits from gravelly soils and maritime influences that lend power and complexity to its wines. Sustainability is a core philosophy here, with organic and biodynamic practices embraced across the property.

The 2015 vintage draws almost entirely from the Enclos, with 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, a touch of Merlot and Petit Verdot. This was a year of exceptional balance, with optimal ripeness and perfect harvest conditions. Fermentation was carried out parcel by parcel, followed by ageing for nearly two years in 100% new French oak, allowing each nuance to develop to its fullest. The result is a wine that reflects the estate’s mastery of blending tradition with innovation.

In the glass, the wine offers an opulent bouquet of crushed black cherries, cassis, and ripe black plums, layered with the intriguing secondary and tertiary notes that mark a great Latour: pencil shavings, cedar, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and hints of graphite. Floral touches of violet and rose intermingle with dark chocolate, incense, and a whisper of marine minerality. On the palate, it is powerful yet impeccably refined, with concentrated dark fruit wrapped in velvety tannins. The finish is exceptionally long and mineral-driven, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and depth.

Critics have awarded this wine near-perfect scores, recognising its concentration, purity, and immense ageing potential. It is a bottle destined for decades of graceful evolution, a treasure for collectors who value both heritage and enduring beauty. Perfect to savour after careful decanting today, yet certain to reveal even greater complexity over the next 20 to 30 years.
