The 2011 Château Cantenac Brown is a refined expression of Margaux, produced by a historic estate whose roots trace back to the early 19th century. Founded by the Scottish painter John Lewis Brown, the château is renowned for its distinctive Tudor-style architecture and its reputation for crafting wines of elegance and structure from some of the appellation’s finest gravel soils. Today, Cantenac Brown is celebrated for combining Margaux finesse with depth and precision, offering wines of both charm and longevity.

The 2011 vintage reflects a challenging year in Bordeaux, marked by an early harvest and careful selection. The final blend is composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, 60% new, to enhance both complexity and refinement.

In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby colour and a bouquet of cassis, blackberry, and black cherry, complemented by floral tones of violet and iris. Secondary and tertiary aromas of cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, cocoa, and forest floor add layers of sophistication. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and balanced, with ripe fruit framed by fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, elegant finish that reflects the grace of Margaux.

Critics have noted that the 2011 Château Cantenac Brown performed exceptionally well in its vintage, praised for its poise, aromatic lift, and early drinkability, while still offering the capacity to age gracefully for another decade. A wine of authenticity and classic Margaux charm, it is both a pleasure to enjoy now and a valuable addition to any Bordeaux collection.
