The 2022 Château Canon is a brilliant expression of Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, crafted by one of the appellation’s most revered Premier Grand Cru Classé estates. With origins tracing back to the 18th century, Château Canon takes its name from Jacques Kanon, a privateer who purchased the property in 1760. Today, under the stewardship of the Chanel group, the estate is celebrated for combining timeless elegance with cutting-edge precision in both vineyard and cellar. Its privileged location atop Saint-Émilion’s limestone ridge provides wines of remarkable minerality, finesse, and longevity.

The 2022 vintage reflects an exceptional growing season, balancing richness with freshness. The blend is composed of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, sourced from the estate’s walled vineyards and gently sloping limestone parcels. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, a portion of which were new, lending complexity without overshadowing the purity of fruit.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet colour and a fragrant bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild blueberries, and plums. Floral accents of violet and iris intertwine with more subtle notes of cocoa, cedar, and graphite. Secondary and tertiary layers reveal forest floor, tobacco leaf, truffle, crushed stone, and warm spices. On the palate, it is polished and harmonious, with generous fruit framed by ultra-fine tannins and a precise, mineral-driven finish that lingers with elegance.
